Starto Communicado
This morning an interesting exchange took place between Hamish and I – this was the first verbal exchange where we both acknowledged that we knew what the other person was saying and we came to mutual agreement on the issue.
The communication I’m discussing was a raspberry type noise that Hamish makes when he purses his lips and blows air through the small gap. He usually precedes the raspberry with an “eeeh” sound, so to an outsider, it sounds like “eeeh *bwwwffeeww*”.
So while I was ironing clothes for work, he was sitting in his high-chair getting antsy and wanting to run amok on the floor. To distract him, I started with “eeeh bwfew”…he looked at me, and smiled. A few more raspberries and he joined in on the action and the two of us were playing a game.
I distinctly remember thinking to myself that this game represents the first time he and I have managed to communicate to achieve something for both of us – it’s stupendously rewarding to know that we’re talking the same language – even if it is just complete nonsense.
