Big
A few milestones for this week. 11.8kgs and you can feel it. The boy his heavy and when he throws his weight around, it’s difficult to keep control of him. This of course means he is the heaviest 8 month old we know, and when he went to the house of a 2 year old family-friend, he was heavier than the 2 year old. When we went swimming, and was placed on the foam mat floating in the water, he sunk the entire side of the mat and had to be de-submerged, lest he drown. Having seen the child health nurse, we were told that as long as he follows his growth chart (and doesn’t keep growing faster than it) then everything is a-ok. She wouldn’t be saying it if she was looking after the horse.
Second milestone for this week is mobility. Crawling (like full crawling) is a mastered art. Zipping to andfrom wherever he’s plonked the boy can get to any destination he chooses – usually the computer power cables, TV AV cables or the heater plugged into the power-point (all the safe things, you’ll notice). He also has the ability to jack himself onto his knees and stabilise himself using the coffee table or the cot.
Which leads in to the final milestone for the week – lowering the cot base. Because he’s in a position to pull himself up, there’s concern from some parties (not me) that he’s pull himself up in the cot and then flip over the rail bar. So the power-drill came out and i made a swift handiwork of lowering the cot-base by 2 feet.
